PTZ Cameras
Broadcast-grade PTZ for conferences, town halls and live streaming
Our Canon CR-N500 PTZ cameras bring a genuinely “broadcast” look to spaces where you don’t want (or can’t justify) a full camera crew. They’re ideal for fixed installs and repeatable event formats — giving you smooth, quiet camera moves, reliable autofocus, and consistent framing across multiple sessions.
Whether you’re streaming a town hall, recording a podcast, covering a board meeting, or producing a multi-speaker conference, CR-N500s are a strong choice when you need quality pictures with a practical, low-footprint setup.
Technical overview
The CR-N500 sits in Canon’s professional PTZ range and is designed to integrate cleanly into modern production and streaming workflows:
- 1.0-type CMOS sensor for detailed 4K images and strong low-light performance
- 15x optical zoom (wide-to-tele) for covering everything from a wide room shot to tight speaker close-ups
- Dual Pixel CMOS AF for smooth, accurate focusing (particularly helpful with panel discussions and moving speakers)
- 4K UHD output with oversampled Full HD options for crisp HD productions
- Professional outputs including 3G-SDI, HDMI and IP
- IP streaming + control protocols including RTMP/RTMPS, SRT, RTP/RTSP, NDI|HX
- PoE+ capability for simpler installs (power, control and video over a single cable depending on workflow)
What CR-N500s are best suited for
These cameras really come into their own where repeatability and discretion matter:
Conferences & panel sessions
- Clean coverage of lecterns and panel tables
- Fast switching between speakers using presets
- Quiet operation that won’t distract the room
Board meetings & stakeholder sessions
- Low-profile camera positions
- Reliable “set-and-forget” framing with quick recall
- Easy integration into secure internal streaming or recording workflows
Town hall events & leadership comms
- Multi-camera coverage without crowding the stage
- Consistent visuals across recurring sessions
- Straightforward integration into corporate platforms (or a bespoke stream)
Podcast recordings & fireside chats
- A polished, multi-angle look without constant operator movement
- Close-ups and two-shots using preset positions
- Strong autofocus for conversational formats
Broadcast contribution & studio integration
The CR-N500 is also well suited to broadcast and studio-style workflows, particularly where you need a discreet, repeatable camera position with remote operation. They work well for fixed wide shots, rostrum/lectern coverage, and panel or gallery angles - feeding cleanly into a vision mixer for live switching, recording, or onward transmission. This makes them a practical option for studios, press points and controlled environments where you want consistent framing and reliable output without adding unnecessary footprint in the room.
Control & Integration (Skaarhoj, Blackmagic Design and vMix)
Our Canon CR-N500 PTZ cameras are operated using our Skaarhoj RC-SK5 controller, giving smooth, precise pan/tilt/zoom control and fast recall of preset positions — ideal for conferences, board meetings and panel sessions where timing and repeatability matter.
The cameras also integrate cleanly into our wider production workflows and are fully compatible with both:
- Blackmagic Design vision mixing setups, and
- vMix vision mixing / live production setups
This means CR-N500s can be used as part of anything from a straightforward recording to a fully produced multi-camera live stream — including graphics, remote contributors, and multiple output destinations where required.
How we can help
Bright Spark Studios can supply CR-N500s as part of a one-off event, a touring setup, or a longer-term install — and we’ll design the workflow around what you actually need (not a one-size-fits-all “PTZ package”).
Typical support includes:
- System design (what connects to what, and why)
- Camera placement planning for natural angles and clean sightlines
- PTZ control setup (hardware controllers, software control, presets, operator workflow)
- Streaming / recording integration (switchers, encoders, comms, audio, graphics)
- On-site crew (or hybrid support where PTZ reduces crew footprint)
We can also combine PTZ cameras with traditional camera coverage when the brief calls for it — for example, PTZs covering the stage and wide shots, with an operator-led camera for audience interaction and roaming detail.
Why PTZ works so well for professional events
PTZ cameras are often the difference between “we captured it” and “this looks properly produced” — especially when schedules are tight and spaces are busy.
Done well, PTZ gives you:
- Consistent quality and repeatable framing
- Less kit in the room (and fewer trip hazards)
- Faster setup for venues with limited access time
- Scalable coverage — from one camera to multi-angle production
