The Brief
NHS England holds public board meetings every two months, where senior leadership discuss strategy, accountability, and national priorities. It's a legal requirement that the meetings are livestreamed to ensure public transparency and access.
Since 2021, Bright Spark Studios has delivered the livestream production across two consecutive contracts, providing a resilient, professional broadcast setup that NHS England can rely on.
Our Approach
Each meeting is delivered on location with a streamlined but robust technical setup. Key elements include:
Camera Setup
3-camera system (including 1 operated camera and 2 fixed shots) to cover the full board, wide shots and speaker close-ups
Audio
- Full PA system with in-room reinforcement
- Up to 28 individual microphones, ensuring every board member is heard clearly both in the room and online
Vision Mixing
Live vision mixed using vMix, allowing for smooth switching, branding overlays, and integration of supporting media
Streaming & Connectivity
- Stream delivered via Haivision A220 encoder, with CloudStream Hub used to ensure secure, scalable online delivery
- Bonded connectivity setup using Peplink routers and multiple 4G/5G SIMs — allowing us to operate independently of venue networks
Broadcast Platform
Each stream is embedded directly on the NHS England website, allowing for easy public access with no third-party distractions
We work closely with the NHS Board Secretariat to manage the run of show, handle any schedule adjustments, and ensure every speaker’s contribution is clearly captured.
